Christmas Angels
What are 'Christmas Angels' all about?
‘Angels are the messengers bringing us the good news of Christmas.’
How did it start?
In 2014 a church in the North Shields (Newcastle) area came up with the idea of knitting angels in order to ‘share God’s love and bless the community in public places and community spaces with a Christmas message.’
In the first year they knitted nearly three thousand angels and the idea went viral. By the Christmas of 2017 churches across the UK were joining in and over sixty thousand angels had been knitted and distributed.
The related #xmasangels was trending in countries across the world in no time!

Want to get involved?
If you would like to join us in blessing the community with these lovely angels you can find the patterns below. Feel free to be as creative as you like with them!
In the Christmas story, angels always come with a message to share so we would like our Christmas Angels to do the same. The best way to do this is to attach a gift tag or mini-card to each angel with a message on it. If you would like some please contact us and we will get them to you.
If you use social media we would love for you to post a photo of it with the hashtag #xmasangels.
When someone finds an angel and mentions it on social media using this hashtag it makes it searchable. As people post about the project we can see where the angels turn up.
Helpful Information
Where
You could knit on your own, with friends, at a cafe (how about during the ‘Pop-In’ so you can enjoy coffee and bacon rolls while you knit?) or even during church. You could even teach someone else to knit.
